3 Of The Most Wasteful Daily Expenses

Picture
The worst kind of expenses are the ones that accrue over time seemingly under our very noses. When you buy a big ticket electronic item or spend money on improving your car or house, you can consciously come to grips with the cost, weigh your options and make an informed decision. However, the little things that we spend money on every day add up quickly with no real benefit.

If you are planning on streamlining your spending to save more money or pay your bills easier, I strongly suggest taking a good, hard look at your daily expenses. Often times, these 4 culprits are guilty in squeezing the life out of our wallets. Lets take a look at these 3 wasteful daily expenses.

1. Coffee

The daily cup of coffee has become a mainstream guilty party since the recession. Big coffee chains like Starbucks charge upwards of $4 or $5 for a coffee drink. If you are spending this much on coffee every day, it is going to add up to about $25/week. That's around $1,300 per year on coffee alone.

While spending money on coffee each day might not land you in debt relief counseling, it does put a dent in your bank account. There are several alternatives to this expense. You can make coffee at your house or apartment before leaving, which would save you hundreds of dollars a year. In addition, you could find a cheaper coffee place or look for special offers like “buy 5 cups get 1 free”.

2. Eating Out

Eating out is such an epic waste of money. Yes, everyone deserves to be pampered every once in a while. However, eating out should be a special occasion, not just a meal 4 times per week. Generally, you spend about $15-$20 on a dinner, drink and tip in a restaurant. You can buy enough chicken and pasta to last you 2 weeks with $20.

Don't totally write off eating out, but make it a once a week outing. Not only will this save you money, but it will allow a night out at a nice restaurant to regain some of it's meaning and splendor.

3. Tobacco

If you smoke or dip, I suggest you quit. For years now, doctors have been telling us that excessive tobacco use is bad for us. However, in today's economy, it isn't the health concerns that are most troubling for smokers. The cost of 1 carton of cigarettes is absolutely astronimical right now, and don't logically fit into any budget. Smoking can put you in the hospital and the debt consolidation office. Kick the smokes and save your money and health.
